We dwarves tend to be contemptuous of the mechanical abilities of other races. In truth, we ought to be in awe; for when we build, we have magic and devices far beyond those possessed by others -- steam engines, traction devices, and the like. It is worth remembering that the great works of other civilizations -- the fabled walls of Urf Durfal, the magnificent palaces of the Celestial City, the high-timbered aeries of the Ksar, the forest-spanning cities of Faily among the trees -- all were built with the aid of a mere handful of basic devices. From the wedge, the pulley, the wheel, and the lever, other nations have wrought wonders.
