Profile: According to tradition, naDvaris is the son of the goddess Dvaris, segmented egg layer and source of life. He is the war leader and hero of the Jatalans. When naDvaris dies -- as happens all too frequently, since the Jatalan hero is expected to lead from the van -- the priests seek out a boy-child they believe imbued with the essence of naDvaris. He is raised to become the nation's new war leader; one ritual performed during his growth is designed to render him immune to all poisons. This leaves his skin with a mottled and scarred appearance. This is necessary in part because the Jatalan armies use poison extensively.
