Profile: The Lord of Herds is a god of the Brynell, the incarnated spirit of the beasts of the plain: antelope, bison, and aurochs as well as horses. Even in ancient times, the Byeen nomads would mutter a few words to propitiate him each time they slew prey. And since riding and the hunt continue to play such an important cultural role in Brynell, despite the urbanization of the land, the Lord of Herds remains an important totem spirit.

His earthly avatar is an enormous fire-breathing stallion. Other herding creatures instinctively obey him, accepting him unquestioningly as the dominant creature of the herd. Consequently, the mounts of enemy cavalry quail when confronted with the Lord of Herds, which in game terms cuts enemy flanking strength in half.

The Olukai Shaman, Brynell's wizard, has a spell that allows him to summon the Lord of Herds. As a god, the Lord is, of course, immortal, and can be summoned again if slain.
