Profile: The Olukai Shaman -- his common name, if he ever had one, is unknown to anyone living -- appears to be a spry old man of perhaps seventy. But he has played a role in the history of the Brynelli for at least four centuries and claims to have ridden with the Great Khan Oluke during the conquest of the Brynell plain.
He makes his encampment on the wide plain, avoiding the stench of the cities; he wanders at will, with a string of ponies and, not infrequently, a few acolytes. He visits the Great Khan once a year to offer his advice, gleaned from wanderings both in the flesh and in the spirit, and spends much of each day sending his ghost out in hawk-form.
